CHG Family of Brand

CHG - Family of Brands
From rural clinics to massive hospital networks, it takes a lot to keep healthcare facilities ticking. Having the right staffing
partner in place can make all the difference, especially when that partner is a family of companies.
CHG Healthcare Project Overview
CHG Healthcare (CHG) is the nation's largest physician staffing company—and one of FORTUNE magazine's Best Companies to Work For. CHG came to us asking for an animated video with beautiful artwork to tell their family of brands story. After they showed us a script, we were off to the races to work on storyboards and artwork. The client was very particular that they wanted beautiful artwork, so we made sure that was top priority. All in all it was a joy to work on this project. The team at CHG was awesome, we shared many laughs and both of us were pleased at how this video turned out. All images featured in this project overview are property of CHG Healthcare, Motifize was contracted by CHG Healthcare to create the storyboards, styleframes, artwork, and animation.

Storyboards

After the script was finished we moved on to the storyboard phase. In this phase we illustrated in black and white what each frame would look like, for example, how many characters would be on each frame, what would the characters be doing, what ways did the camera move, and how would we transition from scene to scene. All of this work was done in the storyboard phase. We presented our clients with not only sketches of the storyboards but descriptions of the visuals and animation. Most of the decision making of the actual video happened at this stage in the process.
Artwork
As you can see the artwork closely matched the storyboards. That is the beauty of this whole process. From a client’s perspective, they want to see what they are getting, the storyboards established the foundation of the visuals, and the artwork made it shine. With this particular piece we worked together with Brad Woodard from Brave The Woods, his talent and expertise put us in a really good position to take this artwork and start animating.
Animation

This video had a little bit of everything, 3D, 2D, vector art, and texture painting in Photoshop. The 3D was used for elements such as the tractor you see above. We used vector art for creating most of our characters. Vector art is a technical term that means the shapes, lines, and fill colors are based on mathematical formulas in the computer that when zoomed up does not loose their clarity. In this project we worked with all three of these mediums. The characters were rigged using DUIK in After Effects. DUIK is an animation rigging system that adds bones and controllers to individual layers or to a collective group of layers within the animation timeline. For example, in the doctor scene above, the controller affects the bones and joints in the physician’s arm, very similar to how our own arms move. Animation is fun and there are a variety of tools and techniques to be able to do it. In the years we have spent animating we can say that there are many different ways to achieve the same goal.
Video

We were thrilled with how the video turned out. We were also happy that CHG decided to feature this video on their homepage. They also used our artwork for their website design. That is the value add with these types of videos, you can not only have a video, but you can also have the artwork to incorporate it to your brand. We were very happy to have the opportunity to work with CHG Healthcare. Thank you to them for helping us create fantastic work together.
